In Canada, the Cannabis Act gives people the option to use cannabis as a treatment method for various ailments. Medical cannabis is available to people who have received authorization from a doctor or nurse practitioner to use cannabis for medical purposes. Patients can gain access to medical cannabis through:

• Buying directly from a licensed producer
• Registering with Health Canada to produce a limited amount of medical cannabis
• Designating someone to produce it for them
